In the tranquil waters of the Ningaloo Reef, a remarkable phenomenon unfolds each year. From February to March, the coral spawn attracts whale sharks, the gentle giants of the sea, to this vibrant ecosystem. As the coral spawn peaks in April, these majestic creatures grace the waters in greater numbers, creating a spectacle that captivates all who witness it.
Tour Season and Peak Viewing
Our tours commence on March 15th and extend until mid to late October, offering ample opportunity to experience these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. While the peak season runs through to August, the shoulder months of March, September, and October also present favourable conditions, albeit with relatively fewer sightings as the season progresses..
The early months of March and April offer warm temperatures, ideal for exploring the reef’s rich biodiversity. However, occasional summer storms may add an element of drama to the experience. Keep an eye out for the enchanting sight of baby turtles hatching along the shoreline.
In May and June, the reef teems with life as manta rays gracefully glide through the azure waters, blue whales embark on their annual migration, and the whale shark population flourishes. July and August herald the best chances of encountering the ‘Big 3’ – whale sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales.
